Perfluorohexanone is an important alternative to halon fire extinguishing agent. It is a compound of the ketone class, which is a clear, colorless, odorless liquid that is supercharged with nitrogen gas and stored in high-pressure cylinders as part of the fire extinguishing system. Its chemical structure is identical to 3M's NOVEC 1230 fire liquid phase. Typical applications include: computer rooms, data centers, aviation, ships, vehicles, libraries, oil and gas production sites such as fire. The second outstanding characteristic of perfluorophenone extinguishing agent is its excellent environmental protection performance. Its ozone depletion potential (ODP) : 0, global greenhouse effect potential (GWP) : 1, atmospheric life (year) : 0.014 (5 days), it can be a long-term and durable substitute for Halon, hydrofluorohydrocarbons (HFCS) and perfluorinated compounds (PFCS).
Perfluorohexanone is a liquid at room temperature. Because its heat of evaporation is only 1/25 of that of water, and its vapor pressure is 25 times that of water, these properties make it easy to vaporize and exist as a gaseous state. It mainly relies on heat absorption to achieve the effect of fire extinguishing. In terms of protecting the environment, it is a veritable green fire extinguishing agent.
Since the extinguishing concentration of perfluorohexanone is 4-6%, the safety margin is relatively high, and it is safer for human body when used. Perfluorophenone is a liquid at room temperature and is not a dangerous substance. It can be safely stored and transported in a wide range of temperatures (including air transportation) in normal containers at atmospheric pressure, unlike other halon alternatives, which require pressure container storage and transportation. However, its boiling point is 48-49℃, and its use as a fire extinguishing agent still has certain limitations. For use as a replacement for Halon 1211 fire extinguisher, or for Class B fire protection in total flooding systems and local application systems.
Perfluorophenone can be used as a wet cleaning agent for steam reactors and steam reactor components, as well as for cleaning unwanted deposits that accumulate in gas phase reactors, for etching dielectric or metallic materials in gas phase reactors, and for doping various materials in gas phase reactors.
Practical applications include a variety of liquid chemicals for cleaning, usually including various hydrocarbons such as acetone or isoacetone, and various fluorochemicals such as perfluorocarbons and perfluorinated nitrogen compounds. Water and hydrocarbons do not readily resolve fluoropolymer residues, and water requires a long drying time, whereas hydrocarbons are combustible. Fluorinated compounds are stable, contribute to global warming and are difficult to capture or dispose of in gas scrubbers. Perfluorohexanone overcomes the shortcomings of the above traditional cleaning agents, has remarkable cleaning effect and has little influence on the global warming trend.
The perfluorinated polyether lubricant can be used as a coating on the substrate such as magnetic medium. After the coating is dried, the surface of the substrate is covered with a thin and uniform lubrication film. Perfluorohexanone can dissolve various perfluoroether compounds.
